works for some reason (which you can also change/tweak in the same file above BTW). It's kind of gamey and kind of lame, but that's how terror/light/etc. You don't need your light on that much - you'll notice that when your light is on and you're near the shore, your terror should be going down (or green pips at least) - at this point, you can turn your light off for a few seconds, before the terror begins to increase - at which point switch it back on for a few seconds, etc.

It does require a ship with an aft slot though IIRC. there's a device you can buy in Khan's Shadow which cuts fuel usage (10% - this is actually very noticeable I found). Some engineers can improve fuel efficiency So reducing this is your best bet (I wouldn't reduce the update period for fuel since that's a bit wierd IMO - but you can try that out if you really want, as setting it to 2 should automatically allow you to travel twice as far and keep the light on twice as long).įor in-game options to reduce fuel usage: The engine one is per engine power - so the starting engine (800) uses 800x0.05 = 40 per second (I believe this is at full power). Note that the light one is constant for all engines - but IMO you shouldn't mess with this since if this is too low, the game becomes a joke (since you can just leave the light on almost all the time, therefore generating hardly any terror). "LightFuelDecrementUnit": 100 - how much fuel is used per tick whenever the light is on "EngineFuelDecrementUnit": 0.05 - how much fuel is used per tick per unit of engine power "FuelUpdatePeriod":1 - how many seconds before fuel update "ticks". Probably better to increase the period instead. Beware though that setting the increase to < 0.5 isn't recommended (by me) because it can really mess up the calculations (at least it seems so), especially with small crews. So increasing the period and/or decreasing the increase should mean food lasts longer. "BaseHungerIncrease":0.5 - how much hunger goes up per crew member every HungerUpdatePeriod tick. "HungerUpdatePeriod":10 - how many seconds before the hunger "ticks", i.e. The values you'll (possibly) want to change are: Then go into the "constants" subdirectory, and open the "navigationconstants.json" file using your favourite text editor (Notepad also works - this is a small file so shouldn't be too annoying). You'll want to locate your Sunless Sea AppData directory - which for Windows should be in \AppData\LocalLow\Failbetter Games\Sunless Sea It's actually really easy to mod consumption rates - and it doesn't require editing your savefile or using CheatEngine (or any other third-party tool, apart from a text editor).
